If your furry friend needs a treat, we have a few remaining places left for the dog collar and lead course this Sunday (21st April) at the Globe in Slathwaite. The workshop has been busy with teaching and projects; one of our students is making a completely round bag in a bright, metallic silver (look out for it in a future blog post).
Despite the weather making us think maybe it isn’t, we are actually well into Spring. Keep your eyes and ears open as the bluebells are coming into bloom and the cuckoos are calling. We just spotted the first few blue flowers amongst the green. Apparently, they are the sign of an ancient woodland because they take so long to establish. Wood anenomes are also out now with their tiny white stars flowers and bright, feathery green leaves, sometimes called the ‘windflower,’ they are also an indicator of ancient woodland, because they only spread by 6 feet every hundred years! Listen out when you are wandering through the woods for the cuckoo. It traditionally is supposed to begin performing its iconic call on ‘St Tiburtius’ day, the 14th of April, stopping on St John’s day, the 14th of June. Cuckoos only call when they are flying, they remain silent (presumably to avoid being mobbed) when they are still. Why not take the time to enjoy a woodland wander this week……
